SYF 2011

Bishan Park Symphonic Band, we did it once again!

Bishan Park Symphonic Band SYF 2011

SILVER MEDAL!

Well it has been a long and fruitful journey towards this medal.

Firstly, well done to the Band upon being awarded Silver Medal! I believe that every single one of you in the band has put in their 101% in the actual day itself, your leaders are aware of that, Mr Samuel, instructors and of course the teachers as well. Your efforts have not been gone unnoticed, and I just want to affirm you guys on that.

Today, several of us met at J8 for the release of results at 5.45PM. I never felt this way before, but I'm really contented that all of you there were really concerned about it. Also, to those who were unable to make it there, I'm sure you were equally as nervous. After the results were released, although just a short SMS, it triggered our emotions in numerous ways. We all felt a cacophony and rush of mixed emotions, unsure whether to feel happy or sad.
Well I personally feel that the situation after it was handled like a boss! Haha, the short de-brief and all, it was very well handled.  The gold chocolate that we had in our hands, i feel that it was a much more meaningful 'gold' than the medal itself!

Now, here's a post from your sec 4 senior, Afiq:

Dearest BPS Band, we are once again a silver band! Yes, I understand that some of you might be pulled down a little, expecting to have done better. But as you can see, the amount of practices that we claimed to have been tiring (even me), still got us a silver. Getting a gold ain't easy, but being a performer, we must improve from each and every concert.
The attitude of having confidence must be there, especially when performing. For most of you, this is your first time, so you guys should turn that frown upside down. I'm happy to say that this has been a memorable experience from me. Thank you BPS Band. This ain't the end, and it will never be. Lets continue making history!

Thus, I salute every band member in BPS BAND, the thing I'll never regret, is joining BAND and making music with such awesome band mates. OK THIS MAY SOUND MUSHY AND ALL.. and I have never said this to you guys before, well, I love you guys, you all are a really awesome group of people! Hope this experience will follow you through your lifetime.

I hope Speech Day would be a blast, that's really the FINAL prac for the seniors i guess. Well, till the next time I see you all, very well done, BPS BAND! :D

COUTDOWN

Hi Band

COUTDOWN TO SYF

8 DAYS! Are we prepared enough? .

Our performance has been rather inconsistent. Sometimes good sometimes not so.
Please do keep up the good work and effort that you all have put in for the months/years of training.
Sec 4Es, this is your last year in band, please put everything you have learnt in this 3.25years of band into good use/ :)

Sec 3s, I am beginning to see improvements in your conduct. As the next 'senior' of the band, I hope you all will display a higher sense of discipline for your juniors to model after.

Aiming for a GOLD, yes!

Gold, my treat :P

camp

BISHAN PARK SEC SCHOOL
BAND #9 - 4TH APRIL 2011

And yup, we're performing on the first day.
BAND CAMP's next monday, hope you guys are ready for it. IT will NOT be like our normal band camps. This coming one will be a training camp.

As i have said today, we cannot maintain our standard. We MUST improve. (rmb we want a gold medal!)
So i urge all of you to put your hearts together, as one. And most importantly, enjoy what you are doing. Perform a piece of good music, you will then be surprised by the results. Of course, you will feel a sense of satisfaction as well.

Reminder for the Sec 3s, pls be in school on Monday by 7,30 AM.
See you all on Monday :)

Transfer of Webpages

Hi band members,

Due to the irritating and troublesome Wordpress interface which does not support heavy javascript codings, I have decided to revert back to our Blogger webpage. Web address bishanparksymphonicband.blogspot.com
_______________________________________________________________
Alright, back to topic. I have uploaded a countdown timer on the top left hand of this blog. We have less than 40 days to SYF and do you think we are ready for it?   The answer is quite an obvious NO.

Today's exchange with ZhengHua and Geylang Methodist was a reality check, whether we are near our Goal (GOLD) or not. Unfortunately, our performance today only concluded that we are drifting away from our Gold Medal. I am sure you are aware of that... mistakes here and there.

We have already come a long way since we started sight reading our Die Fledermaus a year ago, performed it numerous times for concerts, and practiced millions of times on it. I'm very certain that you will not let our efforts go down the drain. The great killer of this band is our internal pulse. - meaning that we are rushing/slowing down here and there! It is very obvious and I am sure you all heard it today at the exchange.
Those who didn't turn up for the exchange, please update yourself with your sectionmates as there are some changes made to the playing styles.

On a brighter note, I appreciate those who turn up for band despite your busy schedule. I can see many of you putting in effort but frankly, I would say there are still MANY improvements to be made. (eg discipline, music). THIS IS the final lap. 30 days to SYF.

For the Sec 4s this is your LAST SYF, 3 years has passed since we picked up our instruments, so please join us for the last mile and strive for excellence.
Sec 3,2,1s this is your first SYF. It is not going to be an easy one. I hope you will put in extra effort to push up the standard of the band. Once the Sec 4s step down in April, the band will be in the realm of the Sec 3s.

Next band practice will be on Monday 7th March. Please be punctual, those who have classes i hope to see you displaying sense of urgency.
